BEFLOR, Prepared for What Comes After the Fire

At the end of March, massive wildfires swept through the Gangwon and Gyeongbuk regions, leaving behind the largest damage to homes and infrastructure ever recorded in the area. The fire scorched approximately 48,000 hectares—an area equivalent to nearly 67,000 football fields.
What remains now are charred mountains, collapsed rooftops, and fields of ash. Though the flames have been extinguished, the days that follow remain a painful and arduous journey. For many residents, life has come to a halt. Businesses and institutions face the harsh reality of suspended operations. The road back to normal life is proving to be far slower and more complicated than anyone expected.
In response to the widespread devastation, the government has announced plans to allocate a supplementary budget of 10 trillion KRW to support recovery efforts and stabilize livelihoods. When disaster restoration is delayed, the impact extends far beyond physical damage—it disrupts local economies and affects every aspect of daily life.
In the aftermath of disaster, speed is essential. Timely action is the key to preventing prolonged disruption and ensuring communities can begin to rebuild without unnecessary setbacks.
If there are those who put out the flames,
there must also be those who take responsibility for what comes after.
